Sebastien Jaunas
Originally from France, Sebastien Jaunas has been a resident of Paekakariki since 2006. His work explores abstract sculpture, using mixed media, bronze, forged steel, ceramic and wood to create poetic, architectural forms exploring equilibrium, space and movement. Strongly influenced by found organic objects and the landscape of New Zealand he is also inspired by the urbanism and cultural life of cities.
“My work is abstract art and is my response to the world I live in and an expression of my reality. It is inspired by political and social happenings but also by day to day events and objects that translate into dreamscapes. My motivation to work comes from the need to get these images and forms out of my consciousness and into reality.”
Sebastien has been a 2017 and 2018 New Zealand Contemporary Arts Award Finalist, 2016 and 2019 Wallace Awards finalist, a 2016 NZ Art Show Signature Awards finalist, an Oriel Hoskins and Janet Law scholarship recipient.
